How to Operate a Mining Wheel Mucking Loader?

In today’s world, industries are shifting towards “green, healthy, and environmentally friendly” practices. This trend is also influencing mining equipment manufacturers, who must prioritize environmental considerations to stay aligned with industry standards.

Before operating a mining wheel mucking loader, it’s essential to thoroughly study the user manual and follow the operational and maintenance instructions carefully. These loaders are designed to operate efficiently, but proper use and maintenance are key to ensuring their longevity and performance.

Pre-Operation Considerations

1. Cold Weather Precautions

When the temperature drops below 0°C, it’s crucial to drain the cooling water from the radiator, engine, engine oil cooler, and torque converter oil cooler after each work shift to prevent freezing and potential cracks. If antifreeze has been added, draining is not required. In addition, the air tanks should be regularly drained of moisture to prevent freezing and ensure the brakes remain functional.

2. Lubrication

The clutch release bearing cavity should be filled with calcium-based grease before installation. There is also a grease nipple on the outside of the release bearing, which should be lubricated at regular intervals with petroleum jelly to ensure smooth operation.

Transportation to the Mine

Mining wheel mucking loaders are typically transported to the mine via vertical shafts, inclined shafts, or small openings. Prior to starting work, it’s important to conduct an onsite survey of the working area, especially in small cross-sections, to assess the machine’s ability to navigate.

Once onsite, the loader’s systems—including the machine, hydraulic system, and conveyor system—should be tested to ensure everything is functioning correctly. After passing these tests, the loader is ready to be deployed.

Operating the Mucking Loader

1. Preparing the Conveyor Belt

Begin by loosening the steel wire rope that connects the conveyor belt to the hydraulic (or electric) drum. This can be done by releasing the belt bolts. Next, use the lift lever to retract the moving frame, and remove the steel wire rope from the belt. Once removed, roll the belt up into a bundle.

2. Removing the Components

Detach the upper carrier roller, marking the edge for future reference. Then, remove the shovel nose by lifting it with a hoist and unscrewing the bolts that secure it. Remove the internal reverse plates from both sides of the gantry. As the lift cylinder descends, the shovel nose will separate from the conveyor frame.

By following these steps, the mining wheel mucking loader can be efficiently and safely operated, helping to enhance productivity while maintaining the necessary safety and environmental standards. Regular maintenance and adherence to operational procedures are crucial for extending the lifespan of the equipment and ensuring its reliable performance in challenging mining environments.
