An underground mining wheel muck loader is often used in tough environments with rough terrain, putting tremendous pressure on its wheels. As a result, tire punctures and blowouts are common, which can affect work efficiency and pose safety risks to workers. It’s important to regularly inspect the tires for cuts and damage. If a significant puncture is found, it’s crucial to fix it promptly to prevent sudden blowouts during operation. But how exactly should you replace the tires on a wheel muck loader? Here’s a step-by-step guide.

1. Using the Loader’s Arms as Supports

Start by driving the underground mining wheel muck loader to an open area. Then, instruct the operator to use the loader’s hydraulic arms. The arms should lower the bucket to the ground, allowing the loader’s front wheels to lift. Next, use a jack to lift the side of the wheel with the flat tire.

2. Inspect the Tire for Damage

Carefully check the inner and outer tire for any damage, such as punctures. Remove any debris from the tire and mark the location of the puncture. This will make it easier to identify and address the problem when repairing the tire.

3. Removing the Tire

To remove the tire, use a crowbar or tire lever to pry it off the rim. It’s best to have two people working together to avoid accidents and ensure the tire is removed properly.

4. Check the Condition of the Inner Tube and Tire

Once the inner tube is removed, inflate it and submerge it in a basin of water to check for air leaks. If any air bubbles form, you’ll need to replace the inner tube. Afterward, inspect the outer tire for any visible damage. If the damage is minor, the tire can still be used, but if it’s significant, it should be repaired or replaced.

5. Replacing the Inner Tube

When installing a new inner tube, make sure the valve stem is properly tightened to prevent leaks. Clean the interior of the outer tire and remove any debris. You can sprinkle talcum powder inside the tire to help the inner tube slide in smoothly. Inflate the inner tube slightly and place it into the tire. Ensure it is properly positioned before proceeding.

6. Installing the Tire

Once the inner tube is in place, mount the tire onto the rim. Tighten all the bolts securely to ensure the tire is properly attached. Use an air compressor to inflate the tire to the correct pressure. After inflating, remove the jack and have the wheel muck loader operator lower the front of the loader to the ground. If you are replacing a rear tire, you may need an additional loader or a forklift to lift and support the rear wheels.

Replacing tires on an underground mining wheel muck loader is essential for ensuring smooth operations in tough mining conditions. Regular tire maintenance, including checking for punctures and replacing tires when necessary, is crucial for safety and efficiency. By following these steps, you can efficiently replace tires and avoid unexpected disruptions in mining work. Keep your wheel muck loader in optimal condition for better productivity and worker safety.
